So far I've managed to never see a Mr. Beast video, but thanks to this newsletter I'm able to hold my own in conversations about him as if I've seen the whole library. Thanks Ryan and Co for helping fake my way through yet another cultural moment without having to do the work 👍
Also great commentary, Mr B is a wild topic that feels both substantial and mist-like at the same time.
First off A+ on the title of the first section. I'm kinda neutral on "is Mr. Beast bad" thing but I did appreciate the breakdown of the dudes financial outlook. I suspect his twitter meltdown is more of a product of him believing his own hype which if any normy had the same success probably would to.
I liked that now with everything that happened with twitter, the conclusion that "the site wasn't the point" as you brilliantly put it, is now clear. Tough luck for the vcs that were hoping it was.
Appreciated the deepfake entry (Also helpful because a bunch of ppl on my timeline were vaguely referencing it and they didn't name names so I was clueless). I think there's two likely outcomes in that space, one the gov't steps in and regulates it because it probably shouldn't be legal for dudes to make this stuff. Or two it gets so commonplace we just reach the point where it's just another unfortunate part of society we learn to live with. Considering how inactive gov't is feels like it'll be the wild west for the foreseeable future. Downer to think about from the former @ryanpornstar.
