"In the last 120 days, the #Israel hashtag has been used around 220,000 times and been viewed three billion times. The #Palestine hashtag has been used 230,000 times and has been viewed around four million times. Yes, Palestine is slightly more popular on TikTok"
Uh you meant to write "four billion times" in the second sentence right? Otherwise the third sentence doesn't make sense.
Great substack - really appreciate your 'is the web evaporating' post. I think a number of NZ based politicians would benefit from reading it and understanding why Te Pati Maori did so well at our recent election - hint: Tiktok had a lot to do with it IMO. And notably, the outgoing Labour party, which gave up their majority govt, only created their TT account about 6 weeks prior to election day. They lost.
I’m no gauge of anything but it feels to me more that we’ve passed peek video and are in decline. Video feels exhausting or like we’re starting to choke on it. The next craze is gonna be errors, typos, and shit that doesn’t make sense; shit that’s so dumb a human had to have made it...damn I guess we are still talking about TikTok.
I use the term "ArGen" [A(Rtificial Intelligence)-GENerated]: "He sent over a series of ArGen paintings." "There was a single paragraph of ArGen content." "The video is ArGen."
The "Vapor Web" as you call it has been a thing for about a decade now. Coincidentally, for about as long as "Vapor Wave" has been a thing. Because internet content is so targeted and essentially personalized, we end up with isolated pockets of "culture" and "celebrities" that no one in the real world would ever notice outside of internet bubbles. This is happening all day every day. The only thing "current" is happening in the bubble you're in... once you step out, all the content you find will be from a week/month/year/decade ago. The reason you can't "grasp" it is because it's already a ghost... or vapor. It's one of the components of the Dead Internet (the main one being corporatization of the web).
Is the web actually evaporating?
I want to throw my vote towards “gaip” (Generative AI… Piece of content?). Like, “subscribe to my OF to see more gaip.”
I think your use of millions/billions got a bit crossed up when talking about israel/palestine tiktok numbers.. I can't tell which way though :D

I don't know why but this got me laughing so hard.
As for the Vtuber tracking, body trackers specifically made for stuff like that exist.

Thank you for introducing me to Hatsuri Shinonome
speaking of Vapor web, this made me think of the liquid modernity as explained by Zygmunt Bauman

Entertaining read. Thanks!

For a while now I've used the term "AIGENT" for AI Generative Technology.
From GIF to GIC (generated intelligence content). Love the "vapor web". Attention is here today gone tomorrow.

I am ashamed to admit that the Creed video gave me chills
