“we’ve reached a point where you basically need to be consuming both Twitter and TikTok simultaneously to really understand what people are talking about on the internet, at least, in America.”

I consume neither and this is why I read Garbage Day. Thank you for this public service

Pertaining the TikTok lady, I don't think it's fair to say she's outright wrong in her interpretation.

Albert Camus argues that one has to picture Sisyphus as a happy person, because his fate is his own and accepting that grants him power over the absurdity of life.

Granted, that might not be entirely the same point as "having a daily routine and conforming with a neoliberalist lifestyle makes you better at what you do" but it's not necessarily unwarranted.

“As Sisyphus awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.”

No, no! It’s:

“Sisyphus is other people.”

I like that your new "subscribe to garbage day ad" features the best of Mr. Beast but was disappointed that you didn't commit to destroying a man's house if you get x number of new subscribers.

I liked the description of how tiktok and twitter aren't really growth machines for virality. Tough for twitter power users and tiktokkers who are incredibly creative people.

The pilot entry was great, just a fantastic find. Devoting thousands of hours to a thing may or may not make you a pornstar, but it definitely won't make you @ryanpornstar.

"We expect a piece of content to be seen and talked about a lot because it’s somehow notable or interesting. But it’s getting more random and meaningless..." So you're saying it's starting to feel Sisyphean to consume internet content?

Thanks for explaining this -- I saw some of the Sisyphus references on Twitter but couldn't figure it out. Also thanks for your perceptive comments on this and other issues.

In fact, virality on Twitter and TikTok is more of a burden than anything. I understand that and with what is breaking with this world https://flappy-bird.io

No. If consuming Twitter is like a spirited head first dive while ignoring the "1m no diving" sign on the edge of the pool, then TikTok is ignoring the "10cm wading only" sign and rolling the highdive over. What 3 attention-seeking algorithm trolls are doing doesn't represent the internet as a whole, or even Americans on the internet. But it does represent the algorithm of both sites alone!
