Appreciate the Autism Speaks callout - it's wild to me how much power and spotlight they still have especially among entertainment, even with autistic folks screaming for YEARS about how bad they are.

Love the new logo & banner. I also liked the trend report, it’s funny how much is out there that I never see but is absolutely huge.

I’m not gonna lie. I started watching a bit of ER and the Good Fight cause I kept getting recommend those types of clips on Facebook. Eventually I stopped watching cause you know, too many seasons of a show and I rapidly lose interest, apparently.

The link you provided to why Autism Speaks is bad is extraordinarily weak, making me think the criticism is misplaced and they're not actually as bad as folks claim.

The first and main complaint seems to be that autism should not be considered a disorder at all, as something organizations should seek to cure. Which, fine, if someone is high functioning and they don't want to change we should not make them.

But there's also lots of completely non-verbal kids out there who will need lifelong financial support and care. Their parents live with incredible stress and worry about who'll bear that burden for their kids once they're gone - or even while they're alive (the divorce rate among couples who have a kid who's severely autistic is sky high).

I appreciate the work we do to decrease stigma across a variety of characteristics. But criticizing advocacy organizations for treating disorders as disorders veers into rank denialism that doesn't help anyone.
