Even though the toxic fandoms will fail in moving the canon towards their side entirely they are able to exert a sort of soft power in getting their complaints registered under the same banner as "wokeness". Ultimately that might (if the GOP regains power) result in right wing lawmakers threatening state action against media firms and media firms getting ahead of that by producing content more in line with toxic fandoms. Especially when you consider how much of right wing ideology is centered around culture war, while it may not be bombarding a studio with fan demands it might still be effective. Of course if making "white" LOTR led to firms only making more "white" films we wouldnt be where we are today.
“As soon as she moves to keep hold of her creation, it gains a terrifying, spectral autonomy. JK Rowling is not the author of the _Harry Potter_ books; she is their _biggest fan_.”
(Yes I’m aware that Sam Kriss has been cancelled at least once, but because I do not Twitter I honestly cannot remember what for. I just think it’s funny to think of Joanne as a Reddit bro with too much money and no life, in other words basically just Elon Musk with an ongoing book-publishing deal.)
